Abstract

Background: Sibling relationships may provide emotional support but may also involve conflict and rivalry. These dynamics may be relevant to psychological well-being during the transition to adulthood.
Objective: To determine the relationship between sibling relationship dimensions and psychological well-being among nursing students.
Methods: A cross-sectional correlational study involved 70 nursing students from semesters 2, 4, and 6 selected by convenience sampling. Data were collected online in May 2025 using the Sibling Relationship Questionnaire and Scale of Psychological Well-Being. Pearson correlation was used.
Results: Sibling warmth was positively correlated with psychological well-being (r=0.594; p<0.001), as was sibling relative power (r=0.400; p=0.001). Sibling conflict (r=-0.383; p=0.001) and sibling rivalry (r=-0.426; p<0.001) showed negative correlations.
Conclusion: All four sibling relationship dimensions were significantly associated with psychological well-being. Warmer and more balanced relationships were associated with higher psychological well-being, whereas greater conflict and rivalry were associated with lower psychological well-being.
