The relationship of peer social support with art therapy adherence in young adults with HIV

Background: For young adults with HIV, support and motivation are very important so that they can remain compliant in undergoing ARV therapy. Good support and motivation from those around them, including from peers, are believed to reduce barriers and improve adherence to ARV therapy among them.
Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between social support from peers and adherence to ARV therapy among young adult PLHIV at the Victory Plus Foundation in Yogyakarta.
Methods: This correlational research with a cross-sectional approach was conducted on 81 young adult PLWH (People Living with HIV) aged 18-30 years who are undergoing ART at Victory Plus Foundation in Yogyakarta using purposive sampling.
Results: The result shows that the peer social support for young adults living with HIV is mostly in the good category (98.8%), while those in the high category of ART adherence were only 39,5%. Bivariate analysis indicates that there is no significant relationship between peer social support and adherence to ARV therapy (p-value = 0.309) among young adults living with HIV in Yogyakarta.
Conclusion: This research shows that there is no relationship between peer social support and adherence to ART therapy in young adult PLWH
